The New Balance "Boro Pack" Honours Traditional Japanese Craftsmanship

Without a shadow of a doubt, 2023 has been one of the biggest years for New Balance, and just when you thought that the Boston-based sportswear company was about to take its foot off the gas, it goes ahead and reveals the upcoming New Balance "Boro Pack." Inspired by Japanese craftsmanship, this is like all of the sashiko sneakers that we've seen before – but completely supercharged.

The art of boro was originally used in Japan as early as the 1850s. It was a way for farmers and those living in rural parts of the country to mend their clothes and stay warm during the colder months.

For this collection, the same intricate technique has been applied on the 550 and the 580, with contrasting shades of indigo, alternating textures, and a selection of stitching styles used throughout for a design that deserves a place in a museum. It's unlike anything that we've seen before, and it's a prime example of what can be achieved when brands really get creative.

Not much else is known about the New Balance "Boro Pack" at this moment in time, but our sources tell us that a November release is on the cards. Let us know which pair you're feeling the most, and in related news, this Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance collection pays homage to NYC's Masaryk Community Gym!
